hey

She softly sighed breathing in the crisp winter air burning in her lungs. She faintly heard her friends voices dancing in the backround, her music was much more promininet the headphones buried deep within her ear canals. The pulse of the music was easily felt through her ears, for it was far to loud and of this she was aware. 'look at that sky' she told herself. The bluest parts stood out from the perrywinkle tainted by the transparent white of the clouds She squinted her already narrow eyes focusing so hard she saw the particles pulsating above her. Dancing around her making this reality that she herself held true. Breathing in again she felt the air traveling down her windpipes entering her lungs, a cold still lingering within.

Today was a day that was colder than all the rest. Her fingers were a numb chilled from the outside world, and her cheeks were a rosy pink from her body heat within rising up contrasting with the world around causing a clash of the two temperatures right at her cheeks.

"Bobbie" she thought she heard, glancing up she saw all their round faces looking down upon her. She snapped back into her reality tearing the comfort of the intrusive headphone from her ear.

"yeah" she sat up straight, noticing the euphoria wane. "yeah" she repeated quieter under her breath, taking one last savory breath, letting the beauty around her slip from her grasp. They all took one last glance at her and resumed their meaningless conversation. She leaned forward resting her forehead on her folded arms, the smell of the metal sweeping into her nostrils. It was nauseating and overbearing, but she let her head fall closer, the smell growing stronger and felt her mind slipping focusing on the dark of her close lids and the warmth on her back. In her dreams was where she was at home. In this reality that was of her own design he told her he loved her. Over and over and over

"BOBBIE" she felt a shake, a hand on her flesh pushing.

"Wake her up man"

"Is she ok?"

"stop pushing" she muttered, her words muffled by her arms. "Im fine, just didn't sleep last night" she grinned helplessly. Their eyes were prodding, searching for a flaw in her story eager to catch her in a lie. She knew them, she was used to them. "Really" she continued, "Im… fine" she spat out harsher than she intended. There was a silence around the table, everyone staring, trying to think of something to say. She could see it in their eyes. She could hear their little brains looking for a way to make her talk about her "feelings" but they silently knew they couldn't. "I have to go" she mumbled standing up not waiting for a response. Her eyes involuntarily moved towards his and for a moment they watched each other. Her skin began to crawl, her heart began to race and she felt her flesh heating up. She forced her eyes away turning her back to leave.

"Ill text!" someone shouted from behind, but she didn't bother to turn around to see who, her only reply was a less than enthusiastic wave of her hand and she was gone, alone.

Artists statement.

Im part of a girls writing workshop, and we were challenged to come up with a topic that was extremely important to us, and find a way to use our words to get our point across. Well I went through lists of controversial topics in my mind, things I was for, things I was against, then I suddenly realized what I thought was the biggest problem of all, happiness. Lately we’ve all been so wrapped up in war and abortion this and abortion that, so much so that we’ve forgotten to just look around and appreciate everything we have. We as a nation are so accoustomed to only noticing the negative things in our lives, and soon we’re so blinded by all that negative energy its really hard to find the positive. So what I’ve done is picked things that were insightful, or just funny that I’ve said and others around me have said and I put them on leaves. My goal is to make one person smile. My goal is change one persons day, and hopefully get them to turn a new leaf in their lives.

Perhaps I've been setting the bar much to high for myself, for impressing the whole world would be quite the feat.

Humanity-everyone is the same to a degree--our connection to each other.

When did society start judging people based off things other than a person’s character? For many years the color of someone’s skin or a persons gender determined a persons place in society. Unconsciously or consciously we were putting those persons down based upon something we saw on the outside instead of solely what is within. Perhaps it is part of our nature to just automatically judge someone or something by the way they [it] look, smells, feels like, or maybe we never made the decision at all. Maybe the reason we act this way is because it is so easy to judge someone else before really getting to know them for who they are and what they stand for. We as a race are consistently looking for simpler ways to do things, and without knowing it this laziness to not take the time to look beyond what we see will be our downfall. Even today people are still judged by their appearance, be it age or sexual orientation, dress or maybe beliefs everyone gets judged everyday and everyone does the judging. Even for a millisecond something will cross our mind that makes an assumption about the people we meet, and this assumption will constantly override anything you might think about them once they walk away. Why is this so? I can confidently say that if someone took the time to truly look at that first judgment they made about someone, they were almost always wrong. Training ourselves to look past this outward appearance will strengthen us as individuals as well as our spirits. As cheesy as it sounds, putting aside all the judgments and assumptions you make about anyone you’d see that most everyone is a decent human, and as a race finding similarities as opposed to differences will surely benefit us in the future especially with this tension between religions and political beliefs throughout the world.

Every human is a human and everything we do will affect more people than we realize, and in this we are all intertwined. On the inside with our same beating hearts and lungs, kidneys, bladder, we are all the same. All I think is that people should start acting like it.

Drum free write

Sam was quietly peering above her spectacles at the miscellaneous papers strewn across her bed. The quiet drum of the rain playing on her windowpane was the only thing cutting through the silence on this stormy night. Now you or I might have noticed the delicious scent of the rain seeping through the crevices in the window, but not Sam. For 14 of her 17 years of life she had lived in rainy Seattle, so these puny rainstorms hardly caught her attention.

The clock struck twelve and almost instantaneously Sam let out a big yawn letting her body know it was almost time for bed. She ran her hand through her greasy blonde hair and pushed her glasses up her freckled nose so that they were perfectly aligned with her eyes. A muffled sigh escaped the side of her mouth, indicating defeat and with one hand she swiped the annoyingly obligatory papers onto the floor, knowing she’d regret this choice in the morning, but in this moment she couldn’t have cared one way or the other.

Letting out another booming yawn she threw herself back onto her bed letting it form around her body, and she closed her eyes breathing in the crisp air, every breath getting slower, her mind drifting deeper into that carefully phrased oblivion known as sleep.

Soon she was lost just as the rest were in her house. Soon her mind was playing those ever so comforting movies that always ended up with her being awarded all her desires, at least that’s how it started out. The dream seemed harmless at first, it started like the rest, a normal day at home, her mind drifting off into space as her mother spoke in circles about some other thing she disagreed with, then shortly the bell would ring and her mother would stop like always. A look of understanding and contentment would cross her face and she would just smile walking off to answer the door. Soon the expected shrill scream would echo through her home and sam would run to the door only to discover that her dad had finally returned, apologizing he’d ever left and promising he’d never do it again. So you can imagine her surprise when the doorway came into view it wasn’t her father she saw standing there, it was something…. Else.

Something one cant quite explain with words without sounding insane, or unstable. The black of its face gave you chills, and the cold of its eyes could render you catatonic, leaving you at a loss of words for eternity. In its hand was a staff that at a distance appeared to be wood but if you edged closer it gleamed so bright, it couldn’t possibly be made with anything from this planet. Covering its body was what can only be described as a cloak that floated with an eerie essence about the thing, almost as if itself was alive as well. Sam finally dragged her eyes away trying to look at something else, but when she glanced down a tranluscent white hand was holding onto what was her mother, and as sudden as the sleep came, it went and she had awoke sweat pouring down her forhead, back, and chest, her mattress soaked in the same salty fluid.

Silence vs

I think that if you use your voice too much, what you have to say tends to be less effective, but if you save your voice for something that really matters its more likely it will actually affect someone. For instance, say there is one girl who is constantly voicing her opinions, even when no ones listening, everyone’s tired of her. That’s a horrible thing to say but its true. Now imagine that there is another girl who hardly speaks for anything she believes in, and one day decides that she cares enough to now voice her opinion, who are you going to really hear? Though both opinions may be of equal importance, no matter whom you are, the girl who doesn’t speak as much will touch you more, and the girl who is constantly speaking what she believes, will not. So in this I believe that both silence and voice are appropriate at the right moment, and there is always a perfect moment to use both.
I feel that one time constantly using your voice is much more effective to silence is when your appealing to someone you dont know and have never met personally. A person with a strong voice and confidence in everything they believe, a person who cares strongly about many things and is not afraid to vocalize everything they believe, despite how much it matters, not caring what someone might think of them for believing what they do, that person would be a force to be reckoned with, and I personally wouldn't want to get in the way of where they stnad.
